Essential keeps the choices simple, but the same care goes into the framing. I've selected a range of sizes, frames and mounting options to make professionally made framing more affordable. Every frame is made by me in my Nunhead studio, using conservation grade mountboard.

Bespoke framing gives us the freedom to design around the individual piece, with a wider choice of materials, mounting methods, glazing and finishes. It's also the right route for delicate or valuable artwork, unusual sizes and pieces requiring a higher level of preservation.

Bespoke framing starts with the artwork. The frame, mounting, glazing and finish are chosen around the individual piece.

From hardwoods and hand finishes to unusual profiles, painted details, specialist mounting and object framing, there is much more freedom to find the right solution.

That might mean a simple oak frame and a well proportioned mount, or something more individual, such as a painted or stained finish, a particular mount colour, a hand finished detail or a deeper frame for an object.

The mount can become part of the design too. Beyond a traditional window or float mount, shape, colour, depth and hand-finished details can respond to the artwork and create something much more individual. Sometimes those details are subtle. Sometimes they can transform the whole piece.

How the artwork is mounted matters too. A delicate work on paper may need lightweight conservation hinges, while other pieces cannot be mounted with adhesives and need a different approach. The method depends on the artwork and what is appropriate for its long term care.

Sometimes the right answer is very simple. Sometimes it takes a little more thought. A frame can look effortless while a lot of thought has gone into what you don't see.

The aim is a frame that works with the artwork, protects it appropriately and feels right for the piece, for you and for where it will live.
